My Social Action Project

The effectiveness of the project:

I do believe that the project was effective, I do believe that it gave learners insight into bullying, what they can do when they or someone they know are being bullied as well as why learners bullying and how to treat a bully. Learners also learned about the different types of bullying and how they can prevent it. I would say that this social action project had a positive effect on the school because it created awareness of bullying and the seriousness of bullying.

How has the service-learning changes you personally?

It has changed me in the sense that we must think before we do and say something because a teacher can also be a bully. As a teacher we are there to protect our learners and it has open my eyes to ways I can detect bullying and also how to deal with bullying. It has changed me to be more accepting, understanding and respectful to everyone around me.

How has service-learning developed you professionally?

I have developed professionally because I have gain the knowledge and skills on how to organise and run a social action or any type of project for the school. I know with whom I must consult when you want to organise a project. I also gain crucial information on bullying, how to prevent it as well as the negative effects of bullying.

The benefits of this initiative?

There are great benefits to our anti bullying campaign, it gave learners necessary information that they require when dealing with bullying. The grade 7’s are also the leaders of the school, they set an example for the rest. The other grades will see this and hopefully carry on with the initiative to make learners aware of bullying and to make it clear that such behaviour will not be condoned. The other benefits is to make learners as well as teachers aware of bullying and how to deal and respond, this will definitely decrease bullying within the school as well as the community.
